Abstract This study was carried out during the season of 2001 and 2002 in a private vineyard located at Boktars village, near Aga city, ?Dakahlia Governorate? on 12 years old Thompson Seedless grape vines. Spaced at 2.5<U+00D7>3.0 meters and trained according to the cane system under Pergola Trellis system. Vines were pruned at the beginning of February to six, eight or ten canes with 12 or 14 nodes per each cane presented as follow:1. 6 canes <U+00D7> 12 nodes 2. 6 canes <U+00D7> 14 nodes 3. 8 canes <U+00D7> 12 nodes 4. 8 canes <U+00D7> 14 nodes 5. 10 canes <U+00D7> 12 nodes 6. 10 canes <U+00D7> 14 nodes Effect of pruning severity on yield and cluster characteristics: Number of cluster was increased by increasing the number of nodes. Since, vines pruned to 10 canes with 12 or 14 nodes produced a higher significant number of cluster than other pruning. whereas, leaving 6 canes with 12 nodes gave a lower number of cluster than the other treatments used. from this study one can conclude recommend that leaving 10 canes with 12 nodes for each cane (120 nodes) on the vine of Thompson Seedless grape under pergolla trellis system. Since, this treatment produced a higher yield per vine and per feddan due to its effect to induce a higher number of clusters per vine than the other pruning severity. Furthermore, this treatment gave clear negative effect on both total soluble solids and total acidity in berry juice at harvest time. |
