Abstract

In the present study, the role of a natural chemical agent (peanut oil) as a radio protector was investigated Male Albino rats with average weight 150190g were used in this study. They were divided into four groups:(Normal control, peanut oil injected ,irradiated , peanut oil +irradiated). The obtained result can be summarized as follows: Exposure to (5GY) single dose gcsirradiation induced different changes in calcium metabolism of the experimental rats as: An increase in serum and urine calcium inorganic phosphorous. A decrease in serum total protein concentration. An increase in serum cholesterol level. A decrease in both serum and bone alkaline phosphatase activity. An increase in both serum and bone acid phosphatase activity. An increase in serum 1.25(OH)2D3 level. An increase in serum parathormone level. An increase in serum calcitonin level. An increase in urine hydroxyproline content. The present study demonstrated also that, peanut oil injection preirradiation appeared to reduce the development of the harmful effects of irradiation exposure in mostly all the parameters tested as it is considered as a natural antioxidant Therefore, peanut oil may be useful as a radio protector for people exposed to radiation fields throughout their work or who exposed to radiation therapy.
