Abstract

This study was carried out to estimate the productive and reproductive performance for a herd of Egyptian Nubian (Zaraibi goat). Thus, a total of 1974 normal lactation records of 672 Zaraibi does sired by 98 bucks were collected form ElSerw Experimental Station, belonging to Institute of the Animal Production Research, Ministry of Agriculture, Egypt. The records of the does on total milk yield, lactation length, daily milk yield, litter size at birth, litter weight at birth, litter size at weaning and litter weight at weaning over eleven years from 1990 to 2000 were studied in the present study. The results obtained from the analysis of the data could be summarized as follows: 1 The values of milk production traits recorded in the present study were 273.91 kg, 253.28 days and 1.10 kg for total milk yield (TMY), lactation length (LL) and daily milk yield (DMY), respectively. 2The coefficients of variation of total milk yield (TMY), lactation length (LL) and daily milk yield (DMY) reported in the present study were 38.00, 25.28 and 30.77%, respectively. 3Year of kidding reflected clearly a highly significant effect (P<0.01) on total milk yield, average daily milk yield and lactation length. 4Highly significant effect (P<0.01) of season of kidding on total milk yield and daily milk yield was found. While, the effect of season of kidding on lactation length was non significant. 5Highest total milk yield, daily milk yield and lactation length were recorded for does kidded in March season (Spring) than those kidded in November season (Autumn). The highest milk yield (292.66(R+(B7.88 kg), was in March and the lowest value (268.08(R+ (B8.41 kg) was in November. 6 Highly significant effect of parity of doe on total milk yield was recorded. Milk yield increased with increasing parity up to maximum at 4th parity. First parity goats had the lowest milk yield (246.93(R+(B10.04 kg) but fourth parity goats had the highest milk yield (290.98(R+(B8.91 kg). 7 Nonsignificant statistical effect of litter size at birth on total milk yield was showed.
