Abstract This thesis is devoted to employ the image enhancement using wavelets. The substance of the thesis is divided into four chapters: Chapter I present historical background and overview of the wavelet research. A small sample of what researchers can do with wavelets is shown. Chapter II introduces wavelets and some important wavelets bases. Multiresolution analysis and Multiresolution analysis using Mallat transform are given. Chapter III addresses on wavelets applications in image denoising. This chapter is devoted to introduce the twodimensional wavelet transform. The wavelet denoising procedure is obtained. In such procedure, we have used three different types of noises: additive random noise, pop noise, and localized random noise. In this procedure, we used the wavelet transform to denoise the noisy medical images. Experimental results are done to make comparisons among some different wavelets types. Finally, Chapter IV addresses on wavelets applications in image compression. This chapter is devoted to compress two types of images, medical image (Echo image) and two color images by using alternative wavelet transforms. The compression ratio, the bits per pixel, and the relative 2norm difference are calculated. These measures are used to compare and contrast the performance of the different wavelet transforms. |
