Abstract The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of using mushroom cultivation by-products (MCB) and sesame hulls (SH) in NZW rabbit diets at graded levels (0.0, 4.5, 9.0, 13.5 and 18.0% of the diet) on some productive traits of growing rabbits from 6 to 14 weeks of age in two experiments executed at the same time. The study lasted from May to July 2004. For each experiment, fifty growing NZW rabbits at 6 weeks of age were divided into 5 groups, each of 10 individuals. All groups, on the average, had approximately equal live body weight. Each group of rabbits was fed on one of 5 experimental diets. The first diet was served as a control (T1), however, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th diets were formulated to contain 4.5, 9.0, 13.5 and 18.0% by-product (MCB or SH), respectively. The obtained results from the two experiments indicate that the inclusion of mushroom cultivation by-products or sesame hulls in the diet of growing rabbits up to 18.0% had positive effects on their productivity with good economic efficiency. |
