Abstract

This study concluded that the possibility of microbiological treatment of alum sludge, sugar beet, tanning industrial effluent industrial effluents using two bacterial strains namely Bacillus megaterium, 6SB, Serratia marcescens, 3STA, and two yeast strains namely S.cerevisiae, SC64 and S. cerevisiae, SC66. The chemical analysis of these wastes was performed. The growth dynamic of these microbes was followed using different dilutions of the tested. The optimization for maximize management of this waste was examined by change of pH value, inoculums size % of microbe used and addition of yeast extract as fortifier. The efficiency of the microbial growth was traced by measuring the reduction of TN, TOC, BOD, COD and TOC, and removal of some trace and heavy metals as well. Kinetics of aluminium, selenium and chromium bioaccumulation was studied. Recovery of alum Sludge aluminium was performed. Applicability of biosorption technology to remediate metal <U+2013> containing tanning industrial effluent was examined. Batch system using free microbial cells shake flask was used to examine the biosorption of some trace metal ions and color removal. Batch system using immobilized microbial cells in bioreactors. Biosorption of chromium by immobilized cells of S. cerevisiae, SC64 and B. megaterium, and 6SB were also studied. Biosorption of chromium and removal of accompanied color in continuous system using bioreactor were carried out
