Abstract
Introduction: Surveying the synthetic utility of malononitrile dimer and its application in the synthesis of many heterocyclic compounds. Results and discussion: Part II: This part involves the use of malononitrile dimer in the synthesis of many heteri\ocycles e.g. pyridazine, the tricyclic compound pyridopyrazolotriazine, thiophene, thiazolidin5one derivatives. Refluxing of malononitrile dimer with phenyl isothiocyanate in pyridine yielded the corresponding product 6Amino4(dicyanomethylene)2,3dihydro1phenyl2thioxo1Hpyrimidine (15) which undergoes several reactions to give the corresponding fused heterocycles. Part II: The synthesis of several new azo dyes containing the thiazolidin5one moiety is described. Also, the synthesized azo dyes were applied on polyester fabrics and their fastness properties were evaluated.
