Abstract

This study was carried out for determining the influence of transplant age, nitrogen, phosphorus levels and biofertilizer inoculation (nitrogen fixing ?Azospirillum brasilense? and phosphatedissolving ?Bacillus megatherium?) on growth, yield and quality of cauliflower under environmental conditions of Dakahlia governorate. Two successive field experiments were carried out at Shabrawesh Village, Aga, Dakhalia Governorate, during the winter seasons of (2002/2003) and (2003/2004), using the cauliflower (Brassica aleracea L. var. botrytis) cv. Snowball Y improved. It can be concluded that using 45 days old transplants with mineral fertilizers at the rate 75% of recommended rate / fed (75kg N + 45 kg P2O5/fed), as well as biofertilizer could be promising for obtained good cauliflower yield and quality of curds, in addition to lower nitrate contents in curds. Moreover, application of biofertilizers will save about 25% of the required amount of mineral fertilizer (nitrogen + phosphorous)/ feddan, particularly in the clay soil and will also, decreased the pollution of environmental with concentration of extraordinary of chemical fertilizers. On the other side, the use of biofertilizers as particularly substitution for mineral fertilizers will reduce total production cost for cauliflower yield and gave the highest net profit for farmers.
