Abstract

The study area is a part of the West central Sinai Peninsula. The regional airborne spectrometric and magnetic survey was carried in order to help in the lithological and structural mapping as well as exploration for radioactive mineralized zones. The surveyed prospective zones were extensively studied using the ground spectrometry measurements in random pattern covers these zones. One of these mineralized zones (Abu Thor area) was selected for detailed study using complimentary ground geophysical methods mainly spectrometric, magnetic and selfpotential. These methods were carried out in a grid pattern cover AbuThor area. from the results of airborne spectrometric survey, seventeen interpreted anomaly zones are traced at the northern part of the area; as a result of the uranium migration as a weathering product of the parent rocks (younger granites) in the southern part of the study area. from the results of ground gcsray spectrometric survey, The average U content, in Um Bogma Fm. is the highest, which is 79.2 ppm. where, 69.8 ppm in Abu Thora Fm. and 54.9 ppm in Lower Sandstone Series. The uranium anomalies are mainly restricted within sedimentary rocks; where (175) uranium anomalies are discovered. These anomalies were distributed as; nine anomalies in Abu Thora Fm., (156) anomalies in Um Bogma Fm., and (10) anomalies in lower sandstone series. Um Bogma anomalies are recorded in its members, i.e., two anomalies of which recorded in upper member, (36) anomalies in middle member, and (68) anomalies in lower member. from the total anomalies (38) Uranium anomalies, were discovered in more than 100ppm. These (38) high anomalies are found mainly as (36) anomalies in Um Bogma Fm., one in Abu Thora Fm. and the other last one found in lower sand stone series.
