Abstract

Three field trials were conducted at ElSerw Agricultural Research Station, Damietta Governorate, Egypt, to study the effect of fertilization with nitrogen, phosphorus and sulphur on rapeseeds. The experiments were carried out in two successive seasons (1999/2000 and 2000/2001) on three rapeseed varieties, namely, Pactol, Serw 4 and Serw 6. It is worthy to mention that Pactol is a French imported rapeseed variety, while Serw 4 and Serw 6 are Egyptian ones. The study included oil, protein contents and some physical and chemical properties of the extracted oils. Total glucosinolate and amino acids composition of the seeds were also studied. Furthermore, effect of heat on glucosinolate content, and environmental factors on erucic acid and glucosinolate content were also studied. Each experiment included one of the studied varieties, Pactol, Serw 4 or Serw 6, and 16 treatments, which were the combination of four levels of nitrogen fertilizer (0, 30, 60 and 90 kg/fed), two rates of phosphorus (0 and 30 kg p2O5ifed) and two rates of sulphur fertilizer (0 and 20 kg/fed). The treatments of each experiment were arranged in split split plots design in four replicates. The obtained results could be summarized as folIow:-
1. Seed yield (kg per feddanl:
Serw 6 var. gave the highest value of seed yield followed by Serw
4 and Pactol, which gave the lowest value. The optimum doses for
realizing the highest seed yield for Serw 4 and Serw 6 were 90 kg
nitrogen and 30 kg p2O5ifed, while for Pactol variety they were 60 kg
nitrogen and 30 kg p2O5ifed.
