Abstract The present study aimed at studying effects of different ages, pubertal stages and seasons of the year on morphometric and histomorphological changes in the testis, histomorphometric changes in the epididymis, morphometric analysis of spermatogenic cells, testosterone concentration in blood plasma and tissues homogenate of the testis, localization of enzymes activity of some phosphatases enzymes in both of testis and epididymis and quantitative activities in blood plasma and homogenate tissues in the testis and epididymis of the male dromedary camel. The obtained results showed that The testis dimensions displayed a progressive increase as age advanced and during the breeding season. The effect of pubertal stage, age and season was significant for most histometry of epididymal regions. In the young camels the testis divided into distinct lobules and the parenchyma consisted of solid cords while indistinct lobules were found at the adult age. Generally, postpubertal camels showed the lowest count of spermatogonia and the highest count of spermatids and spermatozoa during the breeding season. The concentration of testosterone in blood plasma and in the testicular tissue was significantly increased during the breeding season. Alkaline phosphatase activity in the testis was higher in the pre than postpubertal camels and during nonbreeding than breeding season. Similar trend was observed of the activity of all of Glucose6phosphatase, adenosine triphosphatase and 5`nucleotidase in the testis and epididymis. Their activities were higher during the breeding than nonbreeding season. The male of onehumped camel reached to puberty at 3.5 years of age; the maturation of spermatozoa was occurred in the caput of the epididymis, and tended to be a typical seasonal breeder. |
