Abstract

In the present study, it is found that the p53 protein is overexpressed in tissue of patients with colorectal cancer and this accumulated p53 protein may be released into blood circulation that can be assayed using a noninvasive technique such as ELISA that optimized based on specific monoclonal antibody (Bp5312mAb) with a sensitivity of about 57% and zero false positive rate. The serum p53 protein is strongly associated to the accumulative p53 protein in tumor cells. No significant associations between serum p53 protein concentrations and sex or age of the patients, while there is a significant increase of serum p53 protein concentrations in the patients of grade I or II compared to the patients of grade III but there are no significant differences in serum p53 protein concentrations among the different tumor site of the carcinoma. p53 mutations may be represents a different biological process and overexpressed independently from CEA or CA 19<U+2013>9 production and can be improve the diagnostic potential of CEA or CA 19<U+2013>9 as tumor markers in patients with colorectal cancer.
