Abstract

Chronic hepatitis C. virus (HCV) infection is one of the major causes of the development of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. In the present study it was aimed to determine the changes in the levels of anti<U+2013>HCV IgG antibody and its subclasses in HCV infected individuals to detect the effect of infection with HCV on the levels IgG subclasses in Egyptian genotype. The results show that, IgG1 was the predominant subclass of antiHCV antibody produced in infected individuals compared with healthy control individuals. Also, the levels of other subclasses ie (IgG2, IgG3 and IgG4) were increased but the increases were not similar to the increase of IgG1. Also, the decrease in IgG2/IgG3 ratio in patients than the corresponding ratio in healthy individuals can be used in the manifestation of HCV infection.
