Abstract

Introduction: It is known that there is a great shortage of animal feedstuffs. Therefore, there is a need to seek for cheep and available alternative sources of uncommon agricultural wastes to be used in feeding rabbits, such as dried banana leaves. <U+2022> Aim of the study: The present study aimed to investigate the effects of banana leaves inclusion in rabbit diets at graded levels with or without yeast culture supplementation on the growth performance, digestibility coefficients, nutritive values, carcass traits, plasma constituents and economical efficiency. <U+2022> Materials and methods: 120 NZW rabbits at 6 weeks old. Banana leaves were used at levels of 0, 10, 20, 25 and 30% with two levels of yeast culture (0 and 4 g/kg diet). The criteria of response about growth, digestibility, carcass traits, plasma constituents and economical efficiency were taken up to 14 weeks of age. <U+2022> Results: Banana leaves can be incorporated in complete pelleted diets of rabbits up to 30% of the diet without yeast culture supplementation with no negative effects on the studied traits. <U+2022> Recommendations: Dried banana leaves can be used in rabbit diets up to 30% without negative effects on the performance traits.
