Abstract

The shortage in traditional feedstuffs is one of the most important problems challenging the poultry production industry in Egypt, wherein the cost feeding constitutes about 6070% of total poultry production in addition to the continuous increase in prices of these materials from time to time and consequently increasing of prices poultry products (meat and eggs). For that reason many attempts have been carried out to look for alternative sources such as agroindustrial byproducts to overcome this problem. The use of such untraditional feed components can also reduce the dependence on imported feedstuffs and alleviate the environmental pollution problems. The aim of this study: The aim of this study was to evaluate the response of Gimmizah laying hens to feeding graded dietary levels of olive pulp meal (OPM) or date stone meal (DSM) during the period from 25 to 45 weeks of age. Materials and methods: Two experiments were conducted using 243 of 25wkold Gimmizah laying hens (135 birds in the experiment 1 and 108 birds in the experiment 2). Graded dietary levels of OPM (0, 4, 8, 12, or 16%) and DSM (0, 5, 10, or 15%) were used in experiments 1 and 2, respectively Results: Results revealed that OPM can successfully be incorporated into the diets of Gimmizah laying hens at levels up to 16%, with no adverse effects on egg production, egg quality or reproductive performance; while not more than 5% DSM can be included in Gimmizah laying hen diets in order to achieve normal performance, as measured by productivity, egg quality and egg fertility and hatchability. Recommendations: The present study recommended that OPM or DSM can be incorporated into the diets of Gimmizah laying hens at levels up to 16% or 5% respectively, with no adverse effects on productive or reproductive performance.
