Abstract Ofloxacin effect on male fertility is still a matter af debate. The aim of the present work was to study the toxic effect of ofloxacin on the testicles of Albino rats. The present study was conducted on 72 adult male Albino rats. They were divided into two main test groups: The frst group recieved a dose of 72 mg/kg/body wt. equivalent to the high humen theraputic dose. The second group recieved ofloxacin at dose equals triple the previous dose 216 mg/kg/body wt. the results was studied in compasion to two control groups for 14 and 28 days for each group. The animals were evaluated for certain parameters including: body weight, testicular weight, relative testicular weight, serum testosterone, epididymal spermatozoal analysis (sperm count, motility, morphology, curvilinear velocity, linear velocity and linearity index), and histopathological changes in the testicles. The results, in general showed that the studied adverse effects correlated with increasing the duration of treatment, dose of the drug, or both. |
