Abstract This study was carried out at the farm of Agric. Research Center in ELBaramon (Mansoura) and in the Laboratory of the Veg. & Flori. Dept. Fac. Agric. Mansoura University during two seasons of (2001 and 2002). The present investigation was planed to study the effect of biofertilizers alone or in combination with mineral fertilizers on vegetative growth, leaves and essential oil yield and chemical composition of leaves and e.oil of thyme plants. Thyme seeds were bought from local market and sown in the nursery on 15th Feb. in the both seasons. The seedling were transplanting to the experimental field on 1st April when they reached about 810 cm in height. The experimental design was randomized complete block with four replicates and five treatments as follows: controlbiofertilizers only bio and mineral fertilizers (nitrobein+ calcium superphosphate) bio and mineral fertilizers (phosphorein+ammonium sulphate) mineral fertilizers only.* This study revealed the following results: 1?All fertilizers treatments produced significantly increase in vegetative growth, plant leaves and essential oil yield, chemical contents in dry leaves and percentage of thymol (the major constituents) of essential oil of thyme plants than the control. 2?Nitrobein + calcium superphosphate treatment produced significant higher yield of leaves, essential oil, thymol percentage and chemical content of leaves dry weighof thyme plants than the other treatments |
