Abstract The concentrations of collagen types I, II, III and IV are determined in plasma of patients with different liver diseases ( Liver cirrhosis, periportal fibrosis and mixed cases ) as well as healthy individuals by ELISA technique. The results of ELISA technique showed that the cutoff of collagen types I, II, III and IV were 238 ng/ml, 120 ng/ml, 220 ng/ml and 245 ng/ml, respectively. By calculating the sensitivity and specificity for each collagen type, we found that;A) The sensitivies of collagen type I were 60%, 75% and 60% in detecting fibrosis, cirrhosis and mixed patients respectively, with 90% specificity.B) The sensitivies of collagen type II were 40%, 47% and 35% in detecting fibrosis, cirrhosis and mixed patients respectively, with 85% specificity.C) The sensitivies of collagen type III were 74%, 77% and 75% in detecting fibrosis, cirrhosis and mixed patients respectively, with 90% specificity.D) The sensitivies of collagen type IV were 82.5% , 85% and 90% in detecting fibrosis, cirrhosis and mixed patients respectively, and 85% specificity. Finally; we could conclude that collagen type I or III or IV can serves as marker for liver diseases, but, when the elevation of collagen type IV is accompanied with an increase in the concentration of collagen type I or collagen type III , this can be used as an indicators for early and perfect diagnosis of cirrhosis. |
