Abstract

One of the most important communication media in today`s world is the Optical Fibers. As a result of wide frequency range, low attenuation and low dispersion, the optical fiber communication system is now a multibillion dollar industry, establishing fiberbased communication network around the world. The main limitation on the fiber was the dispersion. There are two main classes of optical fibers, conventional fibers and photonic band gab fibers. Conventional Fiber based on the Total Internal Reflection (TIR) Theorem. There are two classes of the band gab fibers, the Photonic Crystal Fiber and the Bragg Fibers (BF). Bragg Fibers are formed by a core surrounded by an alternating cladding of high and low refractive index layers. The light is confined to the core by cylindrical Bragg reflection off the alternating layers. The Bragg Fibers have a higher frequency range and lower dispersion compared to the convential fiber. The present thesis is concerned with the analysis of the Bragg Fibers which formed by a core surrounded by an alternating cladding of high and low refractive index layers using the FDFD method. Mainly two types of Bragg Fibers was analyzed, the three and four cladding layers. Then a design for low dispersion fiber was carried out using the Neural Network algorithm. A study for the defect in the fibers is also investigated. Shifting the core and defecting the core, affects the guiding properties of the fibers and cause a shift in the dispersion values.
