Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine sensitivities, specificities and overall accuracies of the urinary biomarkers (transforming growth factor gbs1, epidermal growth factor, NacetylgbsDglucosaminidase, gcsglutamyl transferase, alkaline phosphatase, gbs2 microglobulin, microalbumin, micrototal protein and osmolality) in the diagnosis of ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) in children and to define the optimal reference value for each one in the urine. The results revealed that the mean voided urinary levels of all these biomarkers in the obstructed group before surgery were significantly elevated while the level of osmolality significantly decreased as compared to those levels in the control groups. Epidermal growth factor level showed no significant difference between obstructed and control groups. The combination of voided urinary Nacetyl gbsDglucosaminidase, alkaline phosphatase, gbs2 microglobulin and transforming growth factor gbs1 has high diagnostic accuracy and is the best and most useful one that may be used to identify the UPJO in children.
