Abstract The present study was concerned to determine the determine the degree of mandibular bone changes after induced surgical corticotomy at eh premolar region followed by gradual distraction in unilateral manner with variable rate which were 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 mm. per day and variable durations which were 5 days and 10 days, for this purpose, various steps were applied using rabbit as animal model. 1) Preoperative preparation of the animals: using forty newzland white, healthy, male adult rabbits weighing about 23 kg. they were divided randomyly into three main groups depending on the rate of distraction, each group containing twelve animals, subdivided into two subgroups, each composed of six rabbits. 2) Induced unilateral surgical corticotomy at the premolar region of the mandible. 3) Postoperative flowup by: (1) Clinical follow up (2) Bone density: (3) Histolgical follow up Results showed that: with histological and bone density results of the rate of 1mm. per day was the suitable rate. |
