Abstract Tamsulosin and alfuzosin are used for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). They exert their effect through the antagonism of gas1 adrenoceptors expressed by the prostate gland, urethra and bladder neck. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the topic of uroselectivity in the two cases: case of tamsulosin and that of alfuzosin. The study was designed to compare between these two drugs taking into consideration their effects on blood vessels, cardiac parameters, and liver enzymes in addition to their effect on the intraurethral pressure (IUP). In conclusion, depending on the results obtained, it can be said that although tamsulosin as an alpha1adrenoceptor blocker is more potent than alfuzosin, the latter may be more uroselective as indicated by its lower effect on blood vessels compared to tamsulosin. |
