Abstract This prospective, randomized controlled doubleblind placebo study was carried out on 60 pediatric patients of either sex, between the ages of 1year 7 years admitted at Mansoura University Children`s Hospital and scheduled for elective groin surgery (Inguinal herniorraphy or orchipexy). The protocol was approved by the Research of ethical and scientific committee and written informed consent was obtained from parents of children The nerve blocks were then done according to each group : Gp: placebo group received 0.9 % normal saline for the nerve block at a dose 0.30.4 ml/kg. GB: Received bupivacaine only for the nerve block at a dose 0.30.4 ml/kg of 0.25% solution. GBF: Received bupivacaine fentanyl for the nerve block at a dose 0.30.4ml/kg of 0.25% solution + 1g/kg. from this study , it could be concluded that the use of both bupivacaine and bupivacaine mixed with fentanyl for ilioinguinal / iliohypogastric nerve blocks significantly decreased pain scores, consumption of postoperative analgesics ,provided hemodynamic stability, early discharge and prolonged the duration of postoperative analgesia, with more satisfaction of surgeons and parents .This technique could be suitable for one day anesthesia and surgery in patients submitted for groin surgery. |
