Abstract This study was conducted to evaluate efficacy of some fasciolicidal drug including triclabendazole and mirazid with ascorbic acid interaction against different stages of Fasciola gigantica in experimentally infected Guinea pigs through detection of some hematological and biochemical parameters and also pathological and parasitological studies. The experiment was conducted with 205 Guinea pigs of 12 month old. 125 Guinea pigs were orally inoculated with 20 FGM for each as a single dose by using stomach tube.. The drugs were triclabendazole (fasinex 10%) at a dose rate of 36 mg/Kg bw P.O as a single dose ,and mirazid (commiphora extract ) 10 mg/animal for six successive days in early morning on an empty stomach and ascorbic acid 500mg /liter of drinking water daily . After 1st and 2nd week post treatment either at 4th or 8th week post infection the blood samples were collected for hematological examination & serum chemistry, Guinea pigs were then slaughtered and specimen from liver, kidney, spleen, intestine, heart and lung were collected for histopathological studies. The result revealed that that triclabendazole is most effective than mirazid in the treatment of Fasciola gigantica infection especially if used in combination with ascorbic acid. |
