Abstract

The pink (Pectinophora gossypiella Saund.) and spiny (Earias insulana Boisd) bollworms are of the most important pests attacking the cotton crop, Gossypium barbandense in Egypt. Cotton bollworms (P. gossypiella and E. insulana) are subject to attack by several pathogens, parasitoids and predators. So, the role of these natural enemies should be maximized and involved in the integrated control program of these pests. The present study was conducted in ElGharbia governorate, Samannoud district, throughout two successive cotton seasons of 2002 and 2003. The seasonal activity of natural enemies (pathogenic bacteria, parasitoids and predators) associated with the pink (P. gossypiella) and spiny (E. insulana) bollworms was evaluated under field conditions. In addiation to the pathogensity and efficiency of bacterial isolates against the pests (pink and spiny bollworms) and their egg parasitoid, Trichogramma evanescens were estimated under laboratory conditions.
