Abstract

Purpose of the study: The purpose of the study was to obtain a real picture of the teaching of English in the preparatory stage, and see whether the Audio- lingual method is effectively applied by the teachers. Method: The study is an experimental study A random sample of 40 teachers in Alexandria and 40 from Mansoura. The researcher used two tools namely: a questionnaire and an observation check list. Results: of the observation check list showed that the majority of the sample are weak in pronunciation and the use of foreign language. Results related to applying the questionnaire showed that the majority of the preparatory school teachers know the audio- lingual method by name , and that teachers’ qualifications of the pre stage are not up to the standard required for the particular stage for learning a foreign language.
