Abstract

Geologically, the area is covered by different sedimentary rocks units ranging in age from Early Cretaceous to Quaternary and crossed in part by oligo - Miocene basalts. The oldest rocks are those related to Sabaya Formation of Early Cretaceous age. This formation is exposed in the floor of Bahariya depression and sometimes occupies the core of the anticlinal folded and domal areas. The formation is subdivided from base to top into El Harra Member and Giffara Member, El Harra Member is only exposed at G. El Harra environ, and is further subdivided into two main units differing in lithology.
