Abstract Alpha-i-antitrypsin is the major serum protease inhibitor. It is synthesized in the parenchymal cells of the liver. It probablY functions as a major control protein against the tissue damaging effects of both endogenous and exogenous enzymes. Alpha-i-antitrypsin lB a probable predisposing factor to liver clrrhosis (Sharp et al., 1969). This study was a trial to find out if there is any relation between the serum level of alpha-i-antitrypsin and the clinical presentation of patients infested with schi3tosoma mansoni. The material of this research comprised 101 subjects divided into a control group ccmprised 15 healthy subjects and 86 patients. The group of patients were divided according to the clinical presentation of the disease into: _ Active intestinal bilharziasis consisting of 10 male patients with age ranged 19-67 years. |
