Abstract
Shigella Infection In Childhood Diarrhoea At Mansoura Childhood diarrhoea is one of the dominent causes of morbidity or mortality in Egypt. The present work was done to study the incidence of shi¬gella infection , the prevelance of various shigella serotypes and their sensitivity to various types of ant¬ibiotics in chilfihood diarrhoea at Mansoura. The material for this study consisted of 246 infants and children suffering from diarrhoea attending Mansoura University Hospital and Mansoura general hospital out patient pediatric clinics. Rectal swabs were obtained from them. Stool cultures were done on Mac CoDkey’s or salmonella - shigella agar after enrichment in selenite broth. The biochemical and the serological tests for the identification of the cultured organiSmlwere done. Slide agglutination test was done to determine the various shigella.
