Abstract
Colorectal cancer consititutes a major cause of death in developed counteries . In Egyptq it ranks after bladder and breast cancer . Studies of the faecal. flora after the development of cancer colon may reflect changes in the physiology of the tract as a result of the carci- noma rather than of the flora that originally predis- posed the patient to cancer colon The present work was carried out aiming to study the possible changes in the intestinal flora of patients with colorectal cancer in comparison to controls * This work was done on 20 cases with colorectal cancer (5 with cancer colon and 15 with cancer rectum), they were selected from radiotherapyg gastroenterology, medicine and surgery departments of Mansoura University Hospital# their ages ranged from 20-60 years , Ten nor- mal subjects of matched age$ sex and socioeconomic status were selected to act as a control group * They were subjected to thorough clinical examin- ation entailing , history of special diets bowel distu- rbances s evidence of malignancy and parasitic infesta- tionsq pb7sloal examination to exclude other diseases that may a,ffe’Ot.the intestinal flora such as diabetesp
