Abstract
The aim of this work is to study the changes of gastric acidity in patienta m.th hepatosplenic bilharziasis with or without recurrent upper gastrointestina.l blee¬dine by estimation of free and total acidities and its relation to fasting serum gastrin level to verify the relation between gastric acidity and variceal bleeding. The material of this study comprised 10 patients with hepatosplenic bilharziasis and oesophagehl varices without ’0leeding as H control eroup , and )0 patients with hepa’t oep Lenf,c bilharziasis and recurrent haemateu,¬esis and/or melena they were divided according to number of attacks of haematemesis and/or melena into three groups group I with two attacks, comprised 10 patients, group II with three attacks, comprised 1) patients and group III with four attacks and more , comprised 7 patients.
