Abstract Reviewing the literature, different techniques for correction of congenital ptosis were studied showing their ad vantages aad , disadvantages. The different techniques could be classified into four groups. Operations resecting the levator muscle, operations using the frontalis muscle operations using the superior rectus muscle and transplantation of the corrugator supercilli muscle. Concering the operations using the superior rectus muscle many authors considered it to be obsolote because of its disadvantages. About the other operations each type gets its advantages and disadvantages. The factors indicate the choice of the operations are the following: 1- The severity of the ptosis. 2- The function of the levator. 3- The mechanical and neural component. 4- The corneal sensitivity. 5- Bell’s phenomenon. 6- The patient’s age, motor development and amblyopia. Twelve cases presented with congenital ptosis and were operated upon and seven cases of it could be followed up and recorded. Blascowics operation was performed for three cases, Hess for another three cases while Fasanella-Servat for only one case. |
