Abstract Indomethacin is widely used as analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory agent. The present study was carried out to investigate the possible effect of this commonly used drug on the placenta of the pregnant albino rat. Sixty four females of the white albino rat, on which vaginal bulges were observed, were used after their meeting with males of the same strain. They were divided into two groups (I & II), each contains 32. Animals of group I received a daily oral dose of Indomethacin starting from the 1st day of conception till the day of sacrifice. The drug was given as an oral single dose calculated according to Puget and Bananas table (1964), regarding the human therapeutic dose of 75 ml daily. Group II were used as control. The animals were sacrificed at the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 12th, 15th, 18th• day and at full term. Two treated one control were taken from each age. The placenta of the control and treated animals. |
