Abstract

Lake Manzala is one of the coastal lake system of the Nile Delta. It is the largest coastal lagoon in Egypt with extensive wetlands around it. Wetlands play an important role in fishing, carbon fixation, nutrient assimilation, geochemical cyling, water storage, sediment stabilization and as a nursery habitat for fish, some invertebrates, wild - life and some plants. GIS is an organized collection of computer hardware, software, geographic data and personnel designed to efficiently capture, store, update, manipulate, analyze and display all forms of Geographically referenced information. GIS is an easier automated tool to map the area such as geological maps geomorphological maps, chemical data or any other data sources to enhance conceptual and predicitive models and support coastal resources policy analysis.
