Abstract Honey the sweet viscous substance eleaboratad by the honey bee from, the nectar of plants is considered an ideal nutritive food as it pre servos all it component elements and needs no refining or processing before consumption. Honey beneficial prorerties were wellknown since the oldest times. It had been empirically used in medicine and its therapeutic quaiities had become well known to human beineg. It was aimed in this work to verify the biologtc~l effects of honey by testing some biochemical ohn.ngos before and following prolonged honey consumption. The material of the present study comprised a test group of 57 male maturity onset diabetic patien~. wIth age ranging from 32 to 70 years, in additJ.on to 10 non¬diabetic subjects with natching age. All putiontfJ and control group were selected from different departments of Talkha Fertilizers factories. They woro uueosBed clinically and biochemically before and two months after daily consumption of fixed amount of honey in replacement of the sweeteners provided in their snacks. |
