Abstract Oral carbohydrate tolerance test was studied in 18 mature onset non-insulin dependent diabetic patients ~ith mean age 44.5 yea~s as well as 10 normal healthy subjects as a control group with mean age 33.8 years, all cases were selected from outpatient clinic and Diabetologic clinic at Mansoura University Hospital. For every case estimation of fasting blood glucose level then oral carbohydrate tolerance test after glucose, honey and ordinary diet. In the control group a dual benificial effect of honey in normal healthy subjects as compared to glucose or to ordinary diet, it is a good ~weeting agent beside natural supplement with essential elements. In non-insulin dependent diabetic patients, our study revealed that honey did not taxed the carbohydrate to the same extent as glucose or as ordinary diet and this allows a relatively safe suitable replacement of sugar with honey, on the other hand the two hour postp~andial glucose level is a good and reliable test to diagnose diabetes. |
