Abstract The aim of this work is to find out the reliability of CT in differentiating the causes of proptosis and the extent of the lesions. The materiai included 33 cases presented with proptosis which was unilateral in 27 cases and bilateral in 6 cases. The following has been carried out: _ Clinical and ophthalmological examination. _ CT examination in both axial and coronal scan with or without contrast media. The cases were classified into two groups: Group (A) include intraorbital les~ons compromise (24) patients and group (B) include (9) cases of paraorbital lesions. The intraorbital lesions were classified into ocular, intraconal, muscular, extraconal and intraconal with extraconal while the paraorbital lesions were classified into paranasal sinuses and bony lesions. In ocular lesions, CT can be able to deteet the origin of the lesion, the calcification and the extension to the retro bulbar and or intracranial region. I~ .muscular lesions, CT can differentiate between Graves’ disease and pseudotumor. |
