Abstract Alopecia areata IS a common skin disease of unsettled aetiology. This study was done to measure the level of some trace elements in serum. hair and nail of AA patients in an attempt to find any relationship between these elements and the disease. This work comprised 53 subjects (41 patients and 12 contro 1) selected from the outpatient clinic of Mansoura University Hospital. They were divided into 2 group: alopecia group and control group. The alopecia group comprised 41 patients (25 males and 16 females) with ages varYIng from 10 to 40 years. Thirty one patients had alopecia areata and 10 patients had alopecia total is. Fifteen patients had nail changes in the form of pitting. striations and leuconychia punctata. Non of the patients had recieved any treatment within three months preceding the investigation. The control group comprised 12 healthy individuals of both sexes (6 males and 6 females). The control group matched the diseased group In age, and socioeconomic status. ” residence |
