Abstract
This thesis deals with Melviille, the American novelist and his vision of tragedy. It relastes Melvilles vision of tragedy not only to American literature, but to world literature as well.
This thesis is divided into five chapters. Chapter one, which is an introductory bacground to greek concept of tragedy.
