Abstract
lhis thesis is devoted to the analysis of some pharma-
ceutically-important nitro compounds in bulk, and in dosage
forms. Part 1 presents a literature review revealing the
methods of analysis described for the studied compounds.
Part 11 IS concerned with the determination of some nitro
compounds, adopting the induced difference spectroscopy
techn ique.
This is based on the spectral changes induced
by reduction, either with Zno/HCl or Zno/NH4Cl.
The investigated compounds are furazolidone, metronidazole,
nifuroxime, niridazole, nitrazepam, nitrofurantoin and nitro-
furazone.
Part III describes the simultaneous determina-
tion of certain nitrofuran compounds present in admixture
with other compounds using the two-components and absorbance-
ratio methods.
In this respect, mixtures containing nitro-
furantoin and phenazopyridine as well as furazolidone and
berberine were investigated.
Part IV IS devoted to the
calorimetric determination of certain nitro compounds thro-
u~h reduction followed by diazo-coupling with ethylaceto-
acetoacetate.
In part V, details concerning the reagents,
apparatus and procedures adopted are described.
