Abstract This study was conducted on 30 patients with varying degree of PCM compared with 10 well nourished normal controls. The results showed that T4, FT3 and TBG were significantly subnormal in PCM children then significantly increased after refeeding, though still lower than the control group. T3 was significantly lower than the control in all PCM children. After refeeding the response was variable. TSH and free T4 were within the same range of the control either before or after refeeding. Significant positive correlations were found between serum albumin and either T3 or T4 and between serum TBG and T3, T4 and total protein, while a significant negative correlation was found between T3 and FT3 and also between T4 and FT4 both in the control and PCM group. However, significant negative correlation was found between T3 and TSH in the control group only. |
