The Problem of the Research: The current research aimed at developing the curricula of the National Standards of Education for developing some higher thinking skills (critical thinking) among preparatory school students. To achieve this aim, an evaluative study was conducted on the curricula of social studies of the preparatory stage in light of the National Standards of Education as reported by the Egyptian Ministry of Education. The instruments of the evaluative study were : a checklist for evaluating the educational objectives, a tool for analyzing the content of the curricula of Social Studies, an observation checklist for determining the actual Performance levels of teachers of Social Studies in the preparatory stage. According to the results of the evaluative study, a proposed vision was prepared for developing the curricula of Social Studies. A checklist of the higher thinking skills was applied on the preparatory school students. The experimental study was applied on a sample of forty students of second year preparatory school . Through experimenting the unit of ” Some Problems of the Arab Nation Results proved the effectiveness of the proposed curriculum ” in developing critical thinking skills related to the curricula of social studies among preparatory school students. There was statistically significant differences at .01 level between the mean scores of the pre and post-application of the five sub-tests which represent the Critical Thinking Skills Test and the total score of the experimental group in favor of the post-application.
