Abstract 88 cases with salivary gland tumors were studied for elinicoepidemiologic survey during the period from January, 1 , 1985 to December, 31 , 1995 • An abstract sheet was done for every case to recorded all clinical data of relevance. The relative frequency incidence was { 0.7 % } of total malignancy and { 6.043 % } of head and neck cancers. The mean age was { 49.16 } with male to female ratio 1.6 : 1 . The peak incidence was in the 6tb decade . 65.9 % of cases were involved in the parotid , { 29.5 % } submandibular , { 4.6 % } of cases in the minor salivary gland . The main clinical picture was painless swelling { 97 %} and facial palsy { 48 % } • The most common pathology in the parotid gland was mucoepidermoid carcinoma { 41.4 % } , adenocarcinoma { 19 % } and malignant mixed carcinoma { 13.8 %} , the least was adenoid cystic carcinoma { 3.4 %}. In submandibular gland adenoid cystic carcinoma was the commonest pathological type { 46 % } followed by malignant mixed carcinoma { 23 % }, there were no cases of adenocarcinoma or acinic cell carcinoma. |
