Abstract

In spite of the widely spread of carbonate rocks (Calcite - Dolomite - …) in Egypt there is a lack of researches studying the behavior of carbonate rocks as a coarse aggregate in concrete mixes. The main objectives of this research are:- 1. Developing a comprehensive study, under normal environmental conditions, for the mechanical behavior of gravel and different types of carbonate rocks as a coarse aggregate in concrete. 2. Studying the effect of sulphates attack as well as chlorides attack on the compressive strength of the different types of concrete. 3. Studying the effect of using the gravel concrete and the dolomite concrete together horizontally or vertically in the same specimens on the different mechanical properties. As a result of this work, Crushed limestone is suitable for using in concrete industry as coarse aggregates after its mineral composition and physical, mechanical, and chemical properties would be determined.
