Abstract - This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of two types of chlorhexidine varnishes ( chlorzoin vs cervitec ) on salivary streptococcus mutars levels and caries incidence in high caries risk group of children . -A total number of one hundred and twenty children were selected as high caries risk children according to their caries experience and salivary streptococcus mutans levels . -The selected children were randomly divided into three equal groups (chlorzoin & cervitec and control group ) . For test group , each child was received six varnish applications & five saliva samples were collected for follow up. -The results showed highly significant reduction in caries incidence of permanent teeth by chlorzoin and cervitec varnishes and there were no significant difference between their effect when compared with each other. -The effect of chlorzoin and cervitec varnishes on salivary streptococcus mutans was statistically significant but the effect of chlorzoin was stronger and prolonged than that of cervitec. -from this study we can conclude that , the concentration and frequency of chlorhexidine varnishes is very important for reducing streptococcus mutans and caries incidence in high caries risk children. |
