Abstract Introduction: Cancer is the second most common cause of death in women during their reproductive years, and complicates between 0.02% and 0.1% of all pregnancies. Aim of the work: The aim of this work is to review the management of malignant diseases with pregnancy; the effect of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures on the developing fetus; the recommendation of termination of pregnancy and the effect of treatment on subsequent fertility. Conclusion: Pregnancy does not affect the course of cancer. Surgery for malignant tumors during pregnancy is considered to be safe. Radiotherapy on the other hand should be avoided. But it is not an absolute contraindication. Chemotherapy administered during the first trimester is associated with significant teratogenic effects, and is regarded to be safe during the second and third trimester. |
