Abstract

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory systemic disease that affects diarthrodial joints and causes reduction of the functional capacity to perform the activities of daily living. The aim of this work is to study the hand of RA in an Egyptian population sample to establish a map of lesions underlying the rheumatoid hand dysfunction using clinical, neurophysiological and imaging techniques. This study comprised 100 adult female patients suffering from definite RA selected from the outpatient clinic of Rheumatology and Rehabilitation Department of Mansoura University Hospital. All patients were subjected to (history taking, clinical examination, clinical assessments, Investigations ”laboratory, radiological and nerve conduction studies”). This study showed that SODA score had significant correlation with clinical, laboratory, radiological and nerve conduction studies. X-ray score and MRI score had significant correlation clinical, laboratory, radiological and nerve conduction studies. SODA score was sensitive for assessment of hand function of RA patients, MRI was more sensitive than CR and US in detection of inflammatory and destructive changes of RA hand.
