Abstract The aim of the present work deals with the synthesis of metal complexes of Mn(II), Co(II) and Ni(II), through their reactions with the prepared Schiff base ligands. The Schiff bases were chosen to be tetradentate and pentadentate ligands, which were obtained by the condensation of amine (ethylenediamine or diethylenetriamine) with salicaldehyde, o-hydroxyacetophenone or acetylacetone. The complexes were found to be square planar with the tetradentate Schiff bases and square pyramid with the pentadentate ligand. Different methods were used to isolate the complexes: (i) direct reaction in air atmosphere, (ii) direct reaction under nitrogen atmosphere and (iii) template reaction by the reaction of the constituents in one step. The synthesized ligands and their metal complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, electronic, 1H NMR, mass spectra, molar conductivity and magnetic moment measurements. The oxygen sorption and desorption properties for Co(II), Ni(II) and Mn(II) complexes were studied. The Co(II) complexes were found more efficient. |
