Abstract This thesis is devoted to the analysis of some pharmaceutical amino compounds. Spectrophotometric methods have been suggested for the analysis of six different beta_adrenergic blocking drugs and six ergot alkaloids in bulk powders, in single dosage forms or in admixture with other compounds. This thesis comprises three main parts : Part I: This part is divided into 2 chapters : Chapter A: It is an introduction reviewing the different methods reported for the determination of the investigated beta-adrenergic blockers in pure form, in pharmaceutical preparations and in biological fluids. Chapter B: This chapter describes a rapid and sensitive colorimetric method for the determination of atenolol, propranolol hydrochloride, oxifidrine hydrochloride, pindolo!, acebutolol hydrochloride and alprenolol hydrochloride as pure substance and in tablet formulations. The method depends on the formation of a yellow copper (I) dithiocarbamate complex by reaction with carbon disulphide and tetraacetonitrilocopper (I) perchlorate in onia buffer. The complex presumes (1:1) molar ratio and is extractable in chloroform at pH 7 in which it is stable for at least 24 hr. Beer’s law is obeyed at max. 435 nm over the concentration range 8-56g.ml- 1 with apparent _molar. |
