Abstract
The aim of the present study is to assess diabetic patients knowledge about diabetes mellitus, and their life style.
The study carried-out on 160 diabetic patients, who attending to medical wards and diabetic-out patient clinic at Zagazig University Hospital, during period of the study and accepted to participate in the study.
An interview questionnaire sheet was used to collect the data about sociodemographic characteristic, medical history of the studied subjects, diabetic patients knowledge about diabetes mellitus and their life style modification.
The study results revealed the following-
The majority of the studied subjects were females, 65% from rural areas, about sixty
Health education program in each diabetic clinic to provide patient with knowledge about diabetes and self care.
- Blood glucose and urine analysis should be available free or with low price.
Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretions, insulin action or both, the chronic hyperglycemia is associated with long term damage, dysfunction and failure of various organs especially the eyes, kidneys, nerves, heart and blood vessels (Steppl and Harton, 2004).
Diabetic patient must be demonstrate a great adaptation capacities to change his life style Mass media should provide to all public, about diabetic care, management and important of modification of life style.
